If you are planning to settle in Mauritius, you are probably wondering how to obtain a valid local driving licence. If a competent authority gave you a driving licence, you can exchange it for a Mauritian one, provided conditions.
If you have a driving licence from Europe, Australia or the USA, you don’t have to take your driving test again. This is a very good thing as driving in Mauritius and especially in Port Louis is stressful and chaotic. Apparently, none gives you way and people are very hurry!
In order to exchange the international licence for a Mauritian permit, you will have to bring a copy of your international licence, 2 passport photos, and a letter asking the Deputy Chief of Police for converting the driving licence.
